Boy Scout Troop 16 is one of the oldest and best in Evanston. It was first chartered in 1922 and then again on February 14, 1929. It has been meeting at the Oakton School since 1931 and has been operating from this home continuously for over seventy-five years. Troop 16 is jointly sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston-Breakfast, The Ridgeville Park District, and St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. The Troop has consistently had outstanding boy and adult leadership. By maintaining a high level of training and participation, Scouts and Scouters have risen to become leaders in our community. The Troop has averaged about one Eagle Scout per year, which is well above the national average.
Chuck Carrington has been with the troop since 2001. Before that he was a Cubmaster for Pack 16. In addition to being fully trained for Scoutmaster / Assistant Scoutmaster Mr. Carrington has completed Okpik training for cold weather camping. He became Co-Scoutmaster with Ms. Karen Jamison in May of 2005. The troop is also supported by many Assistant Scoutmasters.
While advancement is considered an important part of the program, it is not overemphasized. Our Troop has rekindled its commitment to the outdoor spirit. Scouting must be fun and every effort is made to make it so in Troop 16.
